Ky Ferneaux
Friday Sep 27, 2019
Friday Sep 27, 2019
This week Al Kidner sits down with Ky Furneaux after a recent late season hunt in QLD, in pursuit of Red Deer with Trad Bows in hand.
Ky sure has packed a hell of a lot of life in a short time. From breaking her back at 19, being told she would be lucky to walk again, starting out in the stunt woman business and being a part of Hollywood’s high end films. To being on Naked and Afraid, walking across the Sierra Nevadas in the US for 100km with only a pocket knife and learning to shoot a recurve.
Ky is a firm believer of making life an adventure, as it’s going to try it’s best to kill us anyway.
Check out Ky’s adventures online at www.kyfurneaux.com or follow her @kyfurneaux on Instagram

Nocturnal Archer - Andy Donald
Friday Aug 23, 2019
Friday Aug 23, 2019
On this weeks episode, Alan Kidner sits down with Andy Donald following the Hunt Expo in Melbourne back in May.
.
Being legally blind, very few would think Archery would a be sport to pursue, but Andy has made it part of his life, more so than most.
.
Andy quotes “To say a lot with very little. This is often the creative goal of musicians, visual artists, dancers, actors, martial artists and ... archers. It’s not the only way it can be done but it speaks to me and that’s why I love traditional archery. The longbow is a beautiful example of a simple idea with tremendous potential and even though this Montana longbow is a 20th century design made with 21st century technology, the basic shape and concept hasn’t changed in thousands of years. There’s something uniquely satisfying about hitting your mark with a simple stick and sting longbow”
.
This conversation is intriguing as Andy takes us through his archery journey.

Barry Howlett - Australian Deer Association
Friday Jul 26, 2019
Friday Jul 26, 2019
This week on the HCDU Podcast Rob Herbert sits sit down with Barry Howlett, Executive Officer of the Australian Deer Association , and discuss some of the difficult positions that the ADA finds itself in as the conduit between hunting groups, individuals and tedious government policy and legislation.
We discuss membership numbers, growth and what increased membership could possibly mean to the ADA at a national level.
Barry highlights the many and varied hats he is required to wear during his work hours and how his life with family is a highlight of many a tiring day.
Rob discovers the complexities of his position and personally see the challenges set by a robust and large group of hunters ( 40 odd thousand in Victoria alone ) while having to brief ministers on upcoming issues.
From a personal note the thing Rob took away from the interview with Barry is the small amount of membership numbers (6000 odd nationally) but Barry answers to close to 100000 hunters nationally on social media, public outcry and groups that don’t even focus their hunting on Deer. Please enjoy and challenge yourself as a hunter afterwards as what could you do to improve hunting in Australia as a world wide leader.
